The Apothecary Diaries

薬屋のひとりごと

Genres:DramaMystery
A young woman in green stands beneath painted palace beams while a long-haired man looks back beside her.

Maomao wants to finish her palace service without drawing attention. When the emperor's children fall ill, she looks for a physical cause while others blame a curse. Her medical knowledge draws her into investigations where rank shapes whose answer is heard. Medical puzzles and awkward comedy develop alongside court politics.

Her medical knowledge earns her a new job as an attendant and food-taster in consort Gyokuyou's household. Colleagues pity the danger of her new duty, while Maomao is frustrated by having too little to do. That mismatch gives the investigations an awkward comic edge: a poisonous assignment can sound rather more attractive to her than to anyone else.

A woman apparently dancing on the palace wall starts a different kind of puzzle. Jinshi asks Maomao about sleepwalking, and Gaoshun takes her to see the supposed ghost at night. The case begins with a rumour and a distant figure; understanding the woman's circumstances matters as much as identifying what the witnesses saw.
