A newcomer finds friends in Hinamizawa, but the approach of its annual festival brings a violent mystery into village life.

Keiichi Maebara’s new home initially offers games and companionship. As the Watanagashi festival approaches in June 1983, that welcoming routine becomes inseparable from fears about the village’s past.

Five young friends walk beside wooden village buildings beneath a mountain sky and the GOU title.

Joining a close community gives Keiichi access to friendships before it gives him access to everything those friends know. The gap makes ordinary conversations difficult to interpret once dread enters the village’s daily life. GOU uses the contrast between playful companionship and recurring violence as the basis of its mystery. Consider it for that unstable relationship between trust and fear. For a first encounter with the earlier mystery, begin with the 2006 series and Kai: GOU returns to their setting with a new story, followed by SOTSU.
