Paranoia Agent

妄想代理人

A boy in a cap smiles with his backpack on a street.

An assault in Tokyo's Musashino district is initially suspected to be an invention by its victim, Tsukiko. When similar attacks follow, the unidentified assailant becomes known as Shonen Bat. Finding him means confronting the pressures surrounding the people he attacks.

The victims share a troubling circumstance: their problems have made ordinary life feel intolerable. That connection gives the investigation something more difficult to explain than a repeated method of attack. Suspicion first falls on the person reporting harm, before the pattern grows beyond her account.

Tsukiko's room supplies a very different image of unease from the unidentified attacker. A small pink Maromi toy sits beside her laptop while she works. Its rounded face shares the cramped domestic space with an absorbed, worried-looking person, bringing a recognisable object of comfort into the same picture as her isolation.
