A handyman from Japan arrives in a fantasy world without becoming a remarkable fighter or magician. Saitou joins an adventuring party where opening locks and repairing equipment make his ordinary work valuable. He has to learn that needing protection does not mean he has nothing to offer.
His companions have powerful abilities and awkward limitations. The warrior Raelza protects the party but finds her feelings difficult to express. Morlock can wield formidable magic and still forget an incantation, while the fairy Lafanpan charges for healing outside emergencies. Saitou’s help fits into the gaps between their strengths.

Raelza’s armour gives a different answer to a dungeon’s dangers from Saitou’s tools. She can put herself between him and an attack; his repairs help keep her equipment useful. Their relationship makes support reciprocal: a practical skill can earn somebody a place without making that person able to survive every threat alone.
