After her hoped-for government career collapses, Maia takes work with an all-purpose service company in a future city surrounded by rising seas.
Nereids offers a livelihood when Maia has few alternatives, but its jobs put her beside a team used to security work, investigations and dangerous improvisation. The sea-covered setting gives those assignments their own vehicles and geography. Employment is the practical starting point: Maia must find a place in this unpredictable workplace while the future she planned recedes behind her.

The ensemble artwork places Maia beside women whose confidence contrasts with her uncertain start. Joining Nereids changes more than the name of her employer; it puts her into situations for which her earlier ambitions have left her poorly prepared. The contrast between a planned institutional career and a precarious service job gives the action a personal point of entry. Broad team comedy shares that space with the risks of taking almost any paying assignment.
