Shangri-La Frontier
シャングリラ・フロンティア
Rakuro loves finishing badly designed games. For a change, he enters Shangri-La Frontier, a polished virtual-reality game with a huge player base. Using the bird-headed avatar Sunraku, he brings habits learned from unreliable games into a world whose monsters and rules reward a different kind of attention.
His early encounters include a rare monster that the game’s millions of players have not defeated and a rabbit companion connected to a hidden quest. These are discoveries inside a game he chooses to play, rather than evidence that he has been transported into another reality. Playing well and finding unusual routes drive the adventure.
Even the early area boss can punish a confident player: Sunraku is poisoned while fighting a giant snake. His unusual experience does not let him ignore the new game’s own threats. A well-made system can still surprise someone who is used to mastering badly behaved ones.
