Hozuki's Coolheadedness

鬼灯の冷徹

Hell’s overworked chief deputy keeps its bureaucracy moving while shortages, unreliable colleagues and troublesome souls create a continuing administrative crisis.

Hozuki handles the problems that overwhelm King Enma, from staffing to the practical consequences of a crowded afterlife. His severity gives the workplace an unusual manager, but meals, hobbies and failed attempts at time off remain recognisable. Mythology supplies both the employees and the departments that need organising.

A discarded can and a pair of tongs give the infernal setting an ordinary practical task. The animal trio expands the cast beyond its most recognisably demonic faces. Hell has a workforce and a local social world as well as a ruler and punishments, which gives its administrative comedy room to operate.
