New employee Umio joins a manga-focused bookshop staffed by avid fans, where the routines of retail work overlap with eccentric customer service and growing affection among coworkers.
The shop’s employees stock new releases, shrink-wrap books and trade nicknames while trying to keep up with readers’ requests. Umio is still learning the store and its tightly knit staff, including the manga sommelier and the artist who works beside him.
The stock includes adult comics, and an early visit from an inspector brings scrutiny of their content onto the shop floor. The employees also have ambitions beyond selling other people’s manga: when Sensei-chan stays overnight to finish a contest submission, her coworkers rally around her deadline.
