Haibane Renmei

灰羽連盟

Genres:DramaFantasy
Rakka and Kuu stand together outside Old Home, with Rakka's halo above her.

Rakka emerges from a cocoon with grey wings and no memory of her past. The other Haibane help her settle into a home beside a walled town with unfamiliar rules. Shared work, meals and small acts of care matter as much as the questions surrounding their existence.

Rakka's grey wings offer no way over the town's walls: the Haibane cannot fly, and only crows come and go. Reki, the older Haibane who finds her cocoon, belongs to the same enclosed community. The setting combines the outward signs of angels with very ordinary dependence on other people, without immediately explaining what any of it means.

The Haibane gather around a younger child at Old Home, with Rakka listening at the right.

Old Home is an abandoned dormitory shared by Haibane of different ages. Rakka’s search for a place in the town takes her into practical work: she hauls rubbish and helps Kana repair clocks before trying the library. Those errands give her chances to learn how other people spend their days while the larger questions about her own arrival remain unanswered.
