Two schoolboys apparently killed by a train find themselves in an apartment where a black sphere equips the assembled dead and orders them to hunt aliens.
Kei Kurono has no reliable explanation for his survival or the rules governing this new existence. The other people in the room face the same immediate problem: obey a mission they do not understand or discover what refusal will cost. Advanced equipment gives the action its science-fiction form, while coercion and bodily danger keep its practical concern on staying alive.

The rainy street image places Kurono in an ordinary world before the premise turns weapons and bodies into parts of an imposed mission. That ordinary scale is useful beside the black suits in the identification artwork. The people sent out by Gantz have not become willing heroes simply by receiving equipment. Their limited knowledge and uneven reactions make the compulsory task its own source of horror.
