Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

鬼滅の刃

Tanjiro looks back amid orange flames.

In Taisho-era Japan, Tanjiro returns from selling charcoal to find his family killed and his surviving sister Nezuko transformed into a demon. He becomes a demon slayer to seek a way to restore her humanity. His duty to fight demons begins with the need to protect one.

The contradiction is present before he joins an organisation: while carrying the injured Nezuko down a snowy mountain, Tanjiro finds himself attacked by his own sister. The story starts with a brother trying to save someone who has become dangerous, giving his search a more specific purpose than revenge alone.

Joining the Demon Slayer Corps requires training and a selection test. Under Sakonji Urokodaki, Tanjiro practises sword swings, breathing and descents through a mountain full of traps. His protective impulse has to become a set of learned physical skills before it can carry him through the organisation’s demands.

Television route through Hashira Training: 26 + 7 + 11 + 11 + 8 = 63 episodes. Counts Mugen Train’s television version once; its film and compilation screenings are alternatives. Infinity Castle films are separate. The 25-minute multiplier is a nominal planning estimate, not a sum of variable premieres/finales.
