Attack on Titan
進撃の巨人

Humanity shelters behind enormous walls from Titans that eat people. Eren wants to explore outside, but a giant taller than the defences destroys that fragile safety. He joins Mikasa and Armin in military training, where learning to fight the creatures begins with meeting the demands of their instructors.
Eren's determination does not make him a capable soldier immediately. In training, even the basic balance exercise for the manoeuvring equipment defeats him while his friends manage it. Failure means being sent away to produce food instead of fighting. The early obstacle is learning a necessary skill under pressure, before a recruit gets anywhere near a Titan.

Training also exposes a contradiction in the army’s rewards. The highest-ranked cadets can join the Military Police and serve in the interior, farther from the Titans. Skills developed to fight the creatures can therefore become a route away from them. Eren’s desire to go outside the walls puts him at odds with that promise of safety, making the choice of a regiment more than an administrative step after graduation.
