Violet Evergarden

ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデン

Genres:Drama
Violet faces forward with an emerald brooch and a letter in her mechanical hand.

After a war, Violet Evergarden takes a job turning other people’s feelings into letters. She is also searching for the meaning of words spoken to her by someone important during the fighting. Each assignment asks her to understand an experience she cannot simply reproduce as an instruction.

The work carries her into very different relationships: letters between separated family members, declarations of love and messages from people who will not remain with their recipients. Violet is paid to make those feelings intelligible while still learning how to recognise her own.

Violet sits on a high ledge overlooking a sunlit harbour city.

The harbour artwork makes the city much larger than the solitary figure overlooking it. Boats, roofs and distant buildings suggest the many lives beyond Violet’s own experience. Her new work asks her to enter that wider human world one assignment at a time, finding words for people whose circumstances she cannot know in advance.
