The Cat Returns

猫の恩返し

Haru leans toward the Baron as he holds a teapot beside the tea service.

Haru saves a cat prince from a truck. His father rewards her with unwanted gifts and decides she should marry his son. Escaping the Cat Kingdom requires eccentric allies and the confidence to refuse its demands, as royal ceremony turns the cats' idea of generosity into comedy.

The cats express gratitude on their own terms. Their king arrives with a motorcade and attendants, then presents gifts that include individually wrapped live mice. Haru is being treated like an honoured guest without being asked what she wants. Those elaborate courtesies make the fantasy's power imbalance funny before the promised marriage becomes something she has to escape.

Haru's route to help begins with Muta, a large cat found lounging outside a street café. He leads her to the Cat Bureau, where the Baron agrees to assist her. A schoolgirl leaning over a chair occupied by a cat makes their meeting comic. This unlikely guide looks thoroughly settled in the human world she is at risk of losing.
