Ichise survives through prizefighting in a city governed by violence and competing forms of power. His encounter with a girl named Ran becomes a turning point for a place in which force seems to decide who gets to keep living.
After Ichise is taken into a laboratory, a doctor prepares replacement limbs using the experimental process called Texhnolyze. Survival is now tied to technology he did not develop or choose. The fighter’s physical ability, once his way of earning a living, becomes dependent on someone else’s work on his body.
The city also makes vulnerability spatial. Beside a steep stone staircase, a wounded figure sits low against the wall while another person stands over him. The distance between those bodies matters as much as the surrounding darkness: this is a place where being unable to stand or move changes the terms of an encounter.
