Porco Rosso

紅の豚

Porco reclines beneath a beach umbrella with a magazine covering his face.

In the Adriatic, a flying ace turned bounty hunter makes his living with the face of a pig. Porco Rosso's clashes with sky pirates bring him a rival in the American pilot Curtis. Aircraft, coastal towns and an unwanted reputation surround his uneasy independence.

Porco's allies include Fio, a teenage aspiring aircraft designer, and Gina, a lounge singer with a place in his life on shore. Their roles put building and maintaining a life alongside the aerial contests. Flying depends on people and skills beyond the pilot at the controls.

The pirates' cramped cabin is crowded with children and oversized adult bodies, a very different arrangement from Porco's solitary retreat. Hats, luggage and raised hands compete for space. That comic congestion gives the sky pirates a disorderly social world of their own alongside the polished aircraft and individual rivalries.
