A Place Further Than the Universe

宇宙よりも遠い場所

Four girls in bright expedition clothing walk across Antarctic snow beneath a blue sky.

Mari Tamaki wants to do something with her school years but keeps hesitating. She joins Shirase Kobuchizawa’s plan to reach Antarctica, where Shirase’s mother disappeared during an expedition. Two more girls join a journey that turns an unlikely ambition into a shared practical undertaking.

The travellers are not four versions of the same student. Hinata has left high school and works while preparing for university exams; Yuzuki is a young performer whose Antarctic job brings her into the group. Their different circumstances matter as they begin making room for one another.

Before there is an expedition landscape, there is Mari looking towards the light at a window. The early image keeps her close and the destination out of sight. Her wish to go somewhere begins within familiar surroundings, with the small difficulty of turning an intention into a first step.
