An unnamed university student imagines that choosing a different club would have given him a better campus life. Parallel versions of his student years return him to the same troublesome acquaintances and elusive romance. His search for the right choice becomes a story about the opportunities he keeps overlooking.
In one route, he and Ozu sabotage other people’s romances through a tennis club; in another, they challenge a domineering film-club leader with an exposé. The repeated university setting changes the activity and grievance. That structure lets each fresh start expose another version of the student’s own behaviour.
Another route takes the student into a cycling club. Unable to keep up with its demanding culture, he buys an expensive bicycle and aims at winning a race, only to have it removed before the event. Changing equipment offers a tempting substitute for changing his habits, giving another fresh start its own practical failure.
