Serial Experiments Lain

serial experiments lain

Lain looks upward beneath a pale sky crossed by cables.

An email from a dead schoolmate draws the reserved Lain Iwakura towards NAVI computers and the networked world beyond them. As strange incidents accumulate around her, the boundary between an ordinary school life and a digital existence becomes increasingly difficult to locate.

Lain begins as someone who struggles with other people, rather than an expert navigating a familiar machine. The invitation arrives through a person who should no longer be able to communicate. That makes her growing fascination with the network a question about human contact as well as technology.

Alice's invitation to the Cyberia club offers another kind of connection. Lain has to decide whether to join other people in an unfamiliar social space, while hearing that somebody like her has already been there. The uncertainty begins among friends, before it can be reduced to a technical problem with a computer.
