Laid-Back Camp

ゆるキャン△

Rin looks ahead from inside the hood of her winter coat.

After moving to Yamanashi, Nadeshiko cycles out to see Mount Fuji and gets stranded when darkness and bad weather spoil the trip. Rin, who is camping by herself, helps her. Their meeting introduces different ways of enjoying the outdoors, alone and with other people.

Nadeshiko’s first outing is a bicycle ride to the view familiar from the thousand-yen note, rather than a well-equipped camping expedition. Rin already knows how to spend a night outdoors. The contrast gives their shared meal and first conversation an immediate practical setting.

The group artwork brings several campers and their equipment into one space, while Rin’s close-up gives her a more private frame. Those are compatible ways into the series. A shared interest in being outdoors leaves room for different company, different habits and the pleasure of preparing a place to stop.
