Hellsing (2001 television series)

HELLSING

A young woman in a blue uniform looks to one side at night.

The Hellsing Organisation protects Britain from supernatural threats under Integra Hellsing's command. Its most formidable hunter, Alucard, is himself a vampire. The 2001 television adaptation places a monster in the service of an institution determined to destroy his kind.

Alucard's position creates the premise's central tension: the organisation depends on a being belonging to the same category as its enemies. Integra provides command and authority, while he carries out the violent work. This thirteen-episode Gonzo series is an earlier adaptation, distinct from the later Hellsing Ultimate OVAs.

The contrast between a young uniformed figure in the field and Integra seated behind glasses and a headset gives the organisation more than one human scale. Orders and exposure to danger occupy different places within the organisation. Its supernatural hunter belongs to a chain of command, with people around him carrying different kinds of authority.
