A robot takes the form of a dead young man to help the girlfriend who has withdrawn after his death.
Kurumi’s wishes remain written on a Rubik’s Cube. The replacement Hal uses them as clues to what might reach her, with help from his creator and people in Kyoto. Fulfilling a request gives him a practical task without making her grief something he can simply solve.

The replacement has a familiar face but must learn what that face means to the person who sees it. That difference turns meals, conversation and shared spaces into more than background: each can expose the distance between an assigned role and an existing attachment. Consider it for a short science-fiction romance about grief and a manufactured companion.
