Gran dreams of leaving his island in a world of floating land and airships. With his companion Vyrn, he meets Lyria, a blue-haired girl fleeing the Erste Empire, and Katalina, the knight helping her escape. Helping them draws Gran into the sky he has wanted to explore.
The destination comes from a letter left by Gran’s father, who promises to wait on Estalucia, the Island of the Stars. That personal invitation gives the journey a direction even as new islands, work and companions interrupt it. Escaping the empire and searching for his father become parts of the same voyage.
Lyria is more than a passenger being taken somewhere safe. The empire’s pursuit of her is the reason Gran’s departure begins in danger, and Katalina has already rebelled against it to protect her. The frightened girl shown aboard a vessel belongs to a struggle that the new travelling companions cannot leave behind simply by reaching open sky.
