Den-noh Coil

電脳コイル

Yasako points at the round detective badge on her shirt.

Yasako moves to a city where networked glasses add virtual pets and software tools to ordinary streets. When her digital dog disappears, a children's detective agency helps her search. Schoolyard rivalries and experiments with the glasses gradually reveal mysteries that the adults around them cannot always see.

A second transfer student, Isako, coldly refuses an invitation to join the local children's hackers' club. They then turn their digital tools against her. The early school rivalry makes the glasses part of a social world: the same equipment used to play and explore can also become a way of excluding somebody.

A girl looks ahead through her glasses while another girl watches her from beside the school lockers.

Densuke can fall ill even though he is a virtual pet: he becomes infected by an Illegal, a mysterious computer virus. Yasako’s grandmother Megabaa tries to treat him with her collection of digital tools. Looking after the dog draws the children into knowledge and equipment already familiar to an older member of the family.
