Bocchi the Rock! the Movie: Hoshi no Ashiato will open in cinemas in 2027. The film’s official site announced it on 1 November with a teaser trailer and visual. The notice gives no day or month.

This is new material for the anime. The 2024 films Re: and Re:Re: were compilations of the TV series. Hoshi no Ashiato adapts the prequel printed at the end of the manga’s fifth volume, which centres on Nijika Ijichi and her older sister, Seika. The site’s own line sets the scene: “A story of two sisters’ dreams, beginning with a farewell.”

The film goes back before Kessoku Band

The series follows Hitori Goto, a painfully shy girl who joins Kessoku Band alongside Nijika, Ryo Yamada and Ikuyo Kita. This film is set before that band existed, and its focus falls on Nijika’s family rather than Hitori. Maaya Uchida voices Seika and Sayumi Suzushiro voices Nijika; they are the only two cast members named so far.

A different director and designer lead the film

Shin Wakabayashi (Wonder Egg Priority) directs and Yukiko Horiguchi (K-On!) designs the characters. Erika Yoshida writes the screenplay, returning from the TV series, and CloverWorks animates. Anime News Network’s report credits the TV series to director Keiichiro Saito and character designer Kerorira.

Tickets go on sale in Japan before a date is set

The first advance tickets go on sale on 6 November at ¥1,600, through Japanese cinemas and two online shops. They use new artwork of the sisters by Horiguchi and come with an illustrated sticker while stocks last.
