Bass X Machina premieres on Netflix on 3 November, the date given in Netflix’s official trailer. The series was first set for 6 October and was moved back four weeks.

Netflix’s premise places it in a steampunk West overrun by outlaws, machines and supernatural forces. A father there has to become “judge, jury and executioner” to protect his family.

A Western drawn by the Devil May Cry studio

Netflix’s teaser presents it as coming from the studio behind its Devil May Cry series: South Korea’s Studio Mir. Brian Tyree Henry voices Bass, and Janelle Monáe also stars. Reports on the cast add Tati Gabrielle, Cree Summer, Chaske Spencer, Currie Graham and Starletta DuPois. Complex reports that the series was created by LeSean Thomas, who also made Yasuke, and that Bass is inspired by Bass Reeves, a real deputy US marshal of the post-Civil War West.
