The Vision of Escaflowne

天空のエスカフローネ

The white armoured Escaflowne stands against a red sky.

Hitomi Kanzaki's school-day plans are interrupted when a boy and a dragon appear in a column of light. Caught in their battle, she is transported to another world. Her personal concerns about a departing school crush give way to a fantasy conflict she could not have anticipated.

Hitomi is interested in fortune telling and has made a particular wager: a personal-best hundred-metre sprint would earn a first kiss from the senior she likes. That recognisable moment of adolescent courage is broken open by the dragon's arrival. Her private attempt to test the future is overtaken by something she could not predict.

Gaia has an arresting point of reference for its new arrival: both the Moon and Earth appear in its sky. Hitomi has left home while still being able to see it. Van's coronation and the threat to his country place her among institutions already in motion, rather than in a world waiting for a visitor to explain it.
