Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

Edward and Alphonse Elric within the Brotherhood ensemble key visual.

Edward and Alphonse Elric try to revive their mother through alchemy and lose parts of their own bodies instead. Edward uses mechanical limbs; Alphonse's soul inhabits armour. The brothers search for the Philosopher's Stone to restore themselves, while Edward's military work brings them into dangerous conflicts with other alchemists.

Brotherhood opens with a manhunt for Isaac, a former State Alchemist who has turned against the military leadership. The brothers are already working inside that institution when their story begins. Their search for a cure therefore runs alongside obligations to people who can issue orders, making the military more than a backdrop for two independent adventurers.

In the town of Liore, the brothers investigate a religious leader who seems to perform miracles. What interests them is an apparent breach of equivalent exchange, the rule that governs alchemy. Their search puts scientific suspicion beside the hopes of people who believe in Father Cornello. Before the larger conspiracy takes shape, the series asks what a promise of impossible restoration can make someone willing to trust.
