Maya hates the occult, yet her father’s death brings her back to his paranormal academy, where a stranger claims to have arrived from the future.
Set in 1999, the academy makes supernatural research part of school life. Maya’s scepticism collides with phenomena that refuse to stay theoretical, while the visitor Bunmei carries another reason to investigate. Their mismatched partnership joins local mysteries to a larger question about the future, giving the school’s odd experiments a consequence beyond the classroom.
Maya’s return begins on an ordinary road beneath the mountains, before the academy turns that homecoming into a confrontation with her father’s life’s work. Her refusal to embrace the occult gives the setting a useful source of friction: the person closest to its legacy would rather reject it. Bunmei’s account of time travel makes disbelief harder to maintain, while leaving plenty of room for suspicion about the messenger.
