Boys in a small Japanese town discover that they can enter Kakuriyo, another world overlapping their own. Exploring it reveals connections with everyday reality and with their brains, bringing a story of adolescence into contact with supernatural experience and scientific questions.
Taro Komori records his recurring dreams of flying on a small cassette recorder. A new pupil, Masayuki, takes an interest in Taro and the often-absent Makoto. That everyday act of recording an uncertain experience gives the story a concrete starting point before the boys can explain what is happening to them.

Miyako Komagusu can see the Unseen World, and her father is a Shinto priest. Her place beside Taro, Makoto and Masayuki brings another family background into their encounters. The four children begin as strangers to one another; getting to know each other is part of how they begin to understand what surrounds their town.
