Teiichi Niiya gets lost in Seikyou Academy’s old buildings and meets Yuko Kanoe, a girl who says she is their resident ghost. She cannot remember how she died. Together they investigate the school’s strange stories through a club whose ghostly founder is visible to only some of its members.
That uneven visibility makes a club meeting two different events at once. Momoe Okonogi can investigate a disturbance without seeing Yuko beside her, while Teiichi has to respond to both the living members and the presence they cannot all perceive. The search for Yuko’s past therefore grows out of everyday misunderstandings as well as frightening rumours.

Momoe records what the club encounters, trying to make sense of the school’s mysteries from the evidence available to her. The notebook in this frame belongs to someone who cannot simply look across the room and see the ghost at the centre of the investigation. Her earnest account gives the group another perspective, even when its most important participant is missing from her picture of events.
