A musician returns to his family's Kyoto sweet shop and discovers that the child living there already has a stronger claim to its future than he expected.
Nagomu comes home intending to succeed his father at Ryokusho, but Itsuka has been working in the shop and is regarded as another possible heir. Asked to become a parental figure to her, he has to earn trust from someone who remembers that he once chose to leave.

The shop is both a business and a place where people have been taking care of one another in Nagomu's absence. Coming home does not automatically restore the position he imagines for himself. Itsuka knows the routines and has reasons to distrust a returning adult's easy promises. The pair beneath the blossoms gives their uneasy connection a setting, while the family frame shows the existing household into which he must fit. Seasonal sweets and customers supply practical occasions for those relationships to develop. Begin with the twelve television episodes; the manga's continuing life does not extend the anime count.
