Tokyo has become an abandoned, contaminated capital after a nuclear catastrophe. Ibara, Aoi and Taeko enter its ruins wearing ordinary school uniforms, an impossible sight for anyone who needs protective equipment to survive there. Artificially created with resistance to the contamination, they have been sent to find and rescue the people who remain.
The first survivors complicate the idea that everyone can simply leave the past behind. A family the team encounters is concerned above all with its young daughter, while the girls must work out how to help people in a place whose infrastructure has failed. Their unusual bodies let them cross the city, but do not decide what its residents need.

The three figures move through a street where vegetation has overtaken buildings and utility lines still cut across the view. Familiar school clothing makes their lack of protective suits conspicuous against that abandoned setting. The rescue mission depends on this difference between them and the people they seek: the team can walk into an environment that has made an ordinary human life there precarious.
