An amnesiac cyborg crosses a dying world where robots fear their own decay—and blame him for bringing it upon them.

Casshern's strength makes him dangerous to the very people he might protect. His journey through the Ruin turns a survival story into encounters with machines trying to give meaning to their remaining time. This is a new interpretation of Casshan, with its own devastated world and uncertain past.

The Ruin changes the usual promise of a robot adventure. Metal bodies deteriorate, communities shrink and a powerful fighter cannot simply defeat the condition threatening them. Casshern can intervene in an attack, but the people he meets still have to decide how to live. The small, exposed face in the accompanying opening-episode frame places that vulnerability beside his imposing design. The useful starting question is what protection means when force cannot repair the world. Expect an itinerant science-fiction drama with combat, rather than a continuation requiring knowledge of the earlier Casshan series.
