Sakura Kinomoto accidentally releases magical cards from a book and becomes responsible for collecting them. Her school and family life continue alongside that task. The original television adaptation follows her learning to recognise the cards’ effects and handle the responsibilities of being their captor.

Sakura finds the glowing book in her home’s basement, so the magical assignment begins inside an ordinary family setting. Releasing the seal also brings out Cerberus, the creature guarding the cards. She has to deal with that new responsibility while remaining a primary-school pupil.

Sakura, Tomoyo and Kero appear together beneath the Cardcaptor Sakura title.

Kero’s small winged shape and Tomoyo’s presence keep the card-catching assignment close to Sakura’s everyday circle. Magical responsibility comes with company as well as unfamiliar objects. The original artwork brings those companions into the same frame as Sakura, leaving space for school friendship inside the fantasy premise.
