Former violin prodigy Hajime has stopped playing when he meets Ritsuko, a classmate who draws him towards music again. They enter a school with a strong orchestra club. The challenge becomes making one sound with players whose abilities, motives and worries differ.
Hajime’s background is in solo competitions under his famous violinist father. The school orchestra places him among many musicians whose work has to fit together. Strict rehearsal and disagreements about how to play a piece make ensemble participation a different task from displaying individual talent.

Ritsuko begins as a novice who keeps practising alone. Her straightforward effort unsettles Hajime before they enter the school orchestra together. The violin appears in a much smaller setting first, between a school bed, pale curtains and classroom light, making the return to music a conversation between two pupils before it becomes membership of a large ensemble.
