Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Jinta and his childhood friends have drifted apart after Menma’s death. Years later, Menma appears to Jinta and asks for a wish to be fulfilled, although she cannot remember what it is. Bringing the old group together means facing feelings they have kept apart as well as a ghost only he can see.

The former friends once called themselves the Super Peace Busters and played at a secret base. By high school, that shared place belongs to an earlier life none of them has properly addressed. Menma’s request supplies a reason to meet again without removing what has made reunion difficult.

The ensemble artwork gathers the old group in one view, so Jinta and Menma’s private encounter can be set beside the friends missing from the kitchen. The wish requires more than an exchange between two people: it brings a social circle that has ceased meeting back into the same story.
