And Yet the Town Moves

A would-be teenage detective works at a neighbourhood maid cafe where staff, customers and school friends keep turning small problems into new complications.

Hotori Arashiyama brings enthusiasm to Seaside but little understanding of how a maid cafe should operate. Toshiko knows more about the job, while the older proprietor and the surrounding shopping street keep the business tied to ordinary local life. School rules, friendships and amateur investigations all intrude on the shift.

The cafe puts Hotori’s school friendships in the same place as her paid work. Toshiko’s involvement adds someone who understands the maid-cafe idea, while their teacher’s objection makes employment itself an immediate problem.
