A young swordsman seeking work in the imperial capital discovers its corruption and comes into contact with Night Raid, the assassins targeting its powerful inhabitants.

Tatsumi arrives hoping to help his village, so the capital initially represents opportunity. What happens around the household sheltering him changes the meaning of that journey. Night Raid’s activities connect individual acts of violence to the larger question of imperial rule, giving this fantasy action story a political target as well as a team of fighters.

Tatsumi’s bright expectation contrasts with Akame’s quieter composure. He enters the city with needs that make apparent generosity attractive; the story’s opening turns that vulnerability into an encounter with concealed brutality. The resulting adventure makes heavy use of lethal violence. Its 24 television episodes describe this anime adaptation rather than the complete manga’s separate path.
