A.I.C.O. Incarnation

After surviving the disaster known as the Burst, Aiko joins a team heading into its source region, hoping to save her family as new information unsettles what she knows about herself.

A transfer student’s arrival interrupts Aiko’s recovery and connects her to the specialist Divers. Reaching the place where the disaster began becomes both a dangerous operation and a search for an explanation of her own circumstances. The premise makes technical questions about the Burst personal: understanding the event may change how she understands the life she has been living.

A dark-haired girl looks ahead with tears gathering under her eyes; a small yellow creature is beside her.
Aiko’s uncertainty makes the rescue mission a question about her own understanding of the past. ©BONES/Project A.I.C.O.

A tearful face gives the mission an immediate emotional scale, while the eye-and-reflection image suggests how uncertain perception can become. Aiko begins with a remembered loss and a difficult recovery, then has to decide what to do when new claims make that account unstable. The team’s journey supplies external danger, but her need to understand whom and what to trust gives the science-fiction mystery its more intimate stake.
