Rookie defence attorney Phoenix Wright begins his career by representing his best friend in a murder case. Believing his client is only the beginning: Phoenix has to expose contradictions in testimony and connect them to evidence the court will accept.
The work continues outside the courtroom with Maya, Mia’s younger sister, while prosecutor Miles Edgeworth stands across from Phoenix in court. Those recurring relationships connect otherwise separate cases, so a new client also returns Phoenix to people whose expectations and methods differ from his own.
Mia’s presence beside Phoenix at his first trial gives the case a second relationship: an inexperienced lawyer relying on a mentor while taking responsibility for someone else’s defence. Her support does not remove the need for him to read the testimony and evidence himself. The person whose freedom is at stake depends on what the rookie can make clear in court.
